Second young American grandmaster registered in the A-Open

Following the announcement that the youngest chess grandmaster of all time Abhimanyu Mishra will take part in the Sparkassen Chess Trophy 2024, the second US player with 2600 has now registered for the A-Open: GM Christopher Yoo. 17 years old, current rating of 2599.

Yoo achieved his first GM norm back in May 2021. At that time, he took first place in the CCCSA GM Norm Invitational Tournament together with GM Peter Prohaszka. 4 months later he won the next grandmaster tournament as clear winner, and in November he achieved the final norm at the US Masters, making him a grandmaster in 2022 at the age of 15. In the meantime, he has already cracked the next important mark with 2600 Elo. The 2700 Elo seems to be the medium-term goal.

Yoo has already competed successfully at the Grenke Open in Karlsruhe and now wants to play for the top places in the €20,000 price fund tournament in Dortmund. Perhaps he will even go head-to-head with his rival from his home country, Abihmanyu Mishra.

Just like the B-Open, the A-Open is limited to 200 participants. Early registration therefore ensures a starting place:
