Dortmund, 1 July 2025 - As part of the International Dortmund Chess Days, the German Football Museum is presenting the spectacular blitz chess festival ‘Women Playmakers on the Chessboard’ on Tuesday, 5 August. The four participants in the International Women's Tournament - live, exciting and prominent right in the heart of German football.
As host, the German Football Museum deliberately bridges the gap between sport and mental exercise. The chess event fits perfectly into the extensive ANSTOSS cultural programme. The Sparkassen Chess Trophy not only offers spectators a spectacular evening, but also an innovative form of tie-break for the closed tournament. The results of the blitz chess tournament count as the second ranking of the main tournament. The fact that the tiebreak is determined before the decisive phase of the tournament in classical chess means that the final rounds will be even more combative.
Blitz chess games with 3 minutes plus 2 seconds per move will be played from 6 p.m. in the ‘N11’ of the German Football Museum. The four players will compete against each other in a double round robin so that the tournament will be over by 8.30 pm.
"We would like to thank the German Football Museum for their great hospitality. The fact that our participants will be able to experience the museum on 5 August at a reduced admission price is a strong sign of appreciation - and a wonderful addition to the supporting programme for them," says Christian Jochmann, Managing Director of the organising association Initiative Pro Schach e.V. This is because the 400 expected participants of the Chess Days will be able to discover the German Football Museum at a special price on the Tuesday before the chess event.
