The open International Bavarian Championships at Tegernsee are one of the biggest chess festivals in Germany and always have a strong line-up at the top. In November 2022 GM Jan-Christian Schröder won the tournament with 7 out of 9 - in the summer he attacks in the strong A-Open of the 50th International Dortmund Chess Days.
The 24-year-old German grandmaster has a current rating of 2559, is not a professional, but sees himself as a hobby player who plays purely for the joy of chess. Nevertheless, he has already been close to the 2600-elo mark and has achieved numerous tournament successes. His winner interview from Tegernsee can still be found online:
