Pähtz and Wagner at the board for Germany at the 2024 Chess Olympiad

Pähtz and Wagner at the board for Germany at the 2024 Chess Olympiad

In September 2024, GM Elisabeth Pähtz and IM Dinara Wagner will occupy the top two boards for Germany´s national team. Before that, the two players will meet in a match over 6 tournament games in Dortmund.

Women's national coach Yuri Yakovich recently nominated the German squad for the women's DSB selection for the Chess Olympiad. Unsurprisingly, Germany's two best female chess players are included and will compete for Germany on boards 1 and 2. Elisabeth Pähtz has been the nominal top player for many years. But now Dinara Wagner has reached a similar level. The winner of the Sportland NRW Cup at the 2023 Dortmund International Chess Days and Pähtz are currently separated by just 3 rating points.

In August, both will not only face an endurance test for the Olympiad, but also a direct duel to show who is currently ahead in terms of play. A 6-game match will be organised as part of the Sparkassen Chess Trophy 2024. It starts on Sunday, 11 August, at 3 pm. The venue is the stage in the Alte Schmiede playing hall in Dortmund.

Match schedule:

11.08.2024 - Game 1
12/08/2024 - Game 2

14.08.2024 - Game 3
15/08/2024 - Game 4

17/08/2024 - Game 5
