From 2 August to 10 August 2025, the Alte Schmiede cultural centre in Dortmund Huckarde will once again be transformed into an international chess arena. Grandmasters, international masters, fide masters and national greats will compete in high-class games, making the A-Open of the 52nd International Dortmund Chess Days one of the strongest open tournaments in the country.
The most traditional chess festival in Germany combines experience, elite and atmosphere - and attracts players from all over the world year after year. What is new is the great enthusiasm among Chinese master players for the Dortmund tournament. One effect of Miaoyi Lu's participation in the International Women's Tournament?
In any case, two strong Chinese grandmasters, Liu Yan and Xiao Tong, are registered, and several other Chinese players are still in the registration process. The list of participants is currently headed by the reigning European Champion and German national player GM Matthias Blübaum.
The A-Open is therefore the perfect open for all norm hunters - aspiring players looking for opportunities for IM norms or GM norms can expect perfect opponents in Dortmund. As the Open is limited to 200 participants, it's time to register quickly to secure a place. The organiser expects the tournament to be fully booked in advance.
