The "Prinzengruppe" of the German Chess Federation was founded in 2008 to promote young talent and became a success project: all 4 boys in the group are now strong grandmasters. And the four young men are all players at the Sparkassen Chess Trophy 2023 in June, including GM Dennis Wagner.

The 25-year-old has been a grandmaster since 2015 and is scratching the 2600-Elo mark. He currently has a rating of 2584 and will play in the A-Open of the 50th International Dortmund Chess Days. Just like Blübaum, Donchenko and Svane, he will be one of the favourites there when the prize fund of € 25,000 in the open tournaments starts on 24 June. Wagner won the round robin tournament under the title Helmut Kohls Tournament as part of the International Dortmund Chess Days in 2013.

"My last tournament in Dortmund was the Helmut Kohls Tournament in 2013, but I have very good memories of Dortmund from there.
All the more I am happy to come back now for the 50th anniversary and also to be able to take Dinara with me."

Dinara Wagner is his wife and has been playing under the German flag since last year, winning the women's German Masters outright. She will compete in the closed Sportland NRW Cup in 2023 - there will be detailed information on this tournament soon.

Meanwhile, registration for the Open is open: Registration Sparkassen Open
