The next grandmaster to participate in the A-Open Sparkassen Chess Trophy 2026 has been confirmed: GM Kacper Piorun has agreed to take part in the traditional Dortmund tournament. The Polish top player has been part of the extended world elite for many years and is particularly known for his versatility.
In addition to his successes on the board, Piorun is also a multiple world champion in problem chess and is one of the most creative minds on the international chess scene. With his combative playing style, he promises exciting games at this year's tournament.
The 2026 International Dortmund Chess Days can therefore look forward to another high-calibre participant. Further names of title holders will be announced in the coming weeks. The organisers are expecting a ‘sold-out house’. A maximum of 200 participants per open (A and B open) can be admitted for capacity reasons. Early registration therefore secures a starting place.
