GM David Navara confirms participation in the A-Open of the Sparkassen Chess Trophy 2026

Renowned Czech grandmaster David Navara is the next top player to register for the A Open at the 2026 International Dortmund Chess Days. He is already the eighth grandmaster to register for the open tournament.

Navara Dortmund 2022Navara has been one of the strongest chess players in the world for many years. The eleven-time Czech national champion and long-time top player has not only made a name for himself internationally, but is also a frequent and welcome guest in Germany. His best rating was an impressive 2751 Elo.

In the German Chess Bundesliga, Navara was very successful for many years at the top board of SV Mülheim-Nord. He moved to SG Solingen for the current season. Navara was already active in Dortmund in 2022, when he took part in the closed ‘Germany Grand Prix’ with eight grandmasters. Things did not go well for the Czech player at that time, but he will be all the more motivated to win the A Open tournament in 2026.

Navara is the next big addition to the Open. He is already the eighth grandmaster to register:

GM Matthias Blübaum
GM David Navara
GM Dmitrij Kollars
GM Surya Sheakhar Ganguly
GM Peter Ács
GM Rafael Vaganian
GM Milos Pavlovic
GM Romuald Mainka

The Open therefore promises not only outstanding quality at the top, but also the best chances for all participants to compete for coveted title standards. Registration is now open, and early registration secures a starting place in the tournament, which is limited to 200 participants.
